Pastel Basket Quilt | Stripy Sashing from Sewing Under the Little Mushroom Cap

There’s something so special about seeing a quilt come to life piece by piece. And this time, I have stripy sashing to bring it all together!  I’m thrilled to share that I’ve made more progress on my pastel basket quilt which I posted about last week here, and it’s finally at the flimsy stage! I do still need to put the border on, but I’m pretty sure I’ll start quilting it soon!

The soft, delicate tones I pulled from my fat quarter stash are just as dreamy as I hoped, and seeing them all ...

Motion Quilting – Ribbon Candy Hearts Wreath from I Patch and Quilt

Happy Monday to you all! I am still clearing out of the Christmas decor, there are some lights that I have take down, and a few candles to put back into storage. But I am keeping the red items out for Valentine’s Day. They are pulling double duty. This week’s freemotion design is also this versatile. Use the design for Valentine’s Day or Christmas.

The hearts wreath design is based on the classic Ribbon Candy design where the s-curves are turned into hearts. This freemotion pattern will look great on quilts with themes like Valentine’s Day ...

SAHRR - Round One from Gene Black an Alabama Artist

After realizing that Gail's post was where I was supposed to share my center block, I realized that Kathleen's post was Round One.   (I was late to start and got confused. I posted my center block on Kathleen's linky - mea culpa!)  I did blog that center block - hopefully you saw it.

Kathleen offered the option of using a block that starts with your initial.  For me that would be a G.  So I Googled "quilt blocks that start with G"  and found the Geometry Block - along with a lot of others.
But, I thought "quilting is really ...

A Pile Of Pieces-Parts from Wedding Dress Blue

I have been working for quite a while on the blocks for an Arkansas Crossroads quilt.

(NOTE: The tutorial link above uses 2-1/2″ squares. I used 2″ squares and 3-1/2″ background pieces. But the idea is the same.)

Finally, all 36 blocks (and sort-of-border pieces) are finished. I hope to lay out and assemble it this weekend, but we shall see…Should be 84″ square when complete.

Happy Wednesday from Terificreations's Weblog

Yesterday was a snow day here in Central Texas, and the day was full. Tonight we record the next episode of Quilter Rule the World and after changing laundry over in a bit I’m going to go get one of my free-motion quilting feet so I can do some free-motion this afternoon. I’m teaching the… Continue reading Happy Wednesday

Free Motion Quilting – Chain Link from I Patch and Quilt

Feeling connected to you is so important to me!

I wouldn’t have gotten where I am today without you. Your inspiring quilts, your thoughtfulness in sharing your world and your support in the comments have a huge impart in my corner of the internet. Let’s make this chain of friendships even stronger in 2025!

The freemotion design Chain Link works well for domestic machine quilters and longarmers. This grid design resembles a bicycle chain and chain links. The pattern is based on a simple loop that is repeated twice per row. This freemotion pattern will look great on ...

Quilt Design Wall | Summer Memories Quilt Progress from Sewing Under the Little Mushroom Cap

Here’s what’s currently on my quilt design wall. I am almost done with all the blocks for the quilt, just another row to go and I’m ready to piece the blocks together with sashing and border.

I started the quilt last summer together with a quilt along celebrating the Summer Memories Book by Susan Ache.  You can check out #summermemoriesqal to join along or to enjoy all the other versions. The book is an eye-candy filled with great projects and is sure to inspire you to pick up some red and blue fabrics to get started. I ...

Starship Mechazilla — PaperPieced Design from Wisonsin Quilting

Entertainment guaranteed.
Experimenting with combining paper piecing and applique by Peggy Aare.

Not all designs end as patterns. That’s not a bad thing; it’s part of the process of creativing. This design is from SpaceX’s Starship launch #5 when SpaceX first successfully caught the booster on chopsticks held by the Mechazilla tower. Not all launches are completed successfully, but that doesn’t mean the effort was for naught. Creativity blossoms, too, when the unexpected happens.

I’m trying here to capture that exact moment when the impossible idea of a huge rocket coming to rest without touching ...

Quilting Thread and Beads 31, 32 from Virtual Quilter

The first design  is neat and tidy, and rather pretty. I have used a multi coloured fabric for the beads, but they could be several different fabrics, scraps … or carefully selected combination of colours and prints.

This is one of my favourite  project files … one of many to be honest … but it has been unopened for over a year.

There are over 300 block  designs in the file, but only 40 quilt designs, but now that I have it open  there just might be a few added in the near future … probably before you see these two.

The second design ...

Second Chance Quilt Needs A Name from Wedding Dress Blue

The five strip blocks came as hand-me-downs. I made the four Variable Stars blocks to go with them.

Would a pattern be desirable? It makes a fast and friendly baby quilt.

And a name would be good, too. Suggestions welcome.

Charm Pack Quilt | Charm Pack Chilli Quilt from Sewing Under the Little Mushroom Cap

Here is a fun quilt I made using a  free charm pack quilt pattern in sweet lavender and green! These are not my usual colours, but they are pretty! Sometimes, I like to try out new colour pallete just to see how I feel working with these. They were surely harder to photographs as I am so used to saturated colours. But I love the finish and I have the perfect person in mind to gift this one to. easy free charm pack quilt pattern

The pattern is available for free on FQS. It uses 3 charm packs but it would ...

Free Motion Quilting – Whisps from I Patch and Quilt

Do you watch Disney animated movies?

This FMQ design is named after the magical whisps in the movie Brave that help the main character Merida find her way back to her family. The whisps, small bright blue creatures, show themselves like flames floating through the forest. This week’s design is named after those magical whisps.

The edge to edge design Whisps creates movement and texture on your quilt and is based on s-curves and curls. Each whisp is echoed before moving on to a new location for the next whisp.

It will look great on quilts with themes like ...

3-yard Quilt Finished: Easiest 3-Yard Quilt Pattern Ever from Wedding Dress Blue

Well, once you get the itch, you just want to make more. Here is another 3-yard quilt: the Easiest 3 yard Quilt Pattern ever. And I agree!

The print binding is different for me, but I had just the right amount of fabric left over.

The minkee backing is also different for me, but it came as a hand-me-down. Having the quilt lay across my lap as I stitched down the binding makes me think I will use minkee on a future quilt I have planned to keep. The drape is appealing.

It is a great pattern for a quick-to-finish ...

English Paper Piecing Grandmother’s Flower Garden Progress from Sewing Under the Little Mushroom Cap

Back with a slow update on this English Paper Piecing Grandmother’s flower garden quilt project. I am so happy to report an update since I didn’t touch the project at all in 2024! Can’t believe that the year simply passes without me touching this project at all, not even basting any of the hexagons. O well what’s passed is passed.

This project is on my list of projects I listed in my 2025 challenge plans HERE>  I would love to continue the momentum with this quilt all the way in 2025. Hoping to make a significant ...

Darianne’s Delight 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

This is a mixture of three or four different block collections so far, and I haven’t quite made up my mind if I have enough variety yet. I am thinking that there is at least one more which should be included.

I love the second design in the project file, though it took a few more than that to get the colours in the right places in the blocks from different projects.

The thing I am trying out is the background fabrics, two fabrics with a very subtle difference. I have tried it before, but I am hoping to ...

December sewing & today's pop-quiz from caledonia quilter

I was asked to make a Christmas table runner.  This was pretty easy to do, using my 60 degree ruler and 1.5m of border print fabric.

I cut two 10" swaths along the length - if you look you'll see there is waste fabric * in between and along the top because the swaths need to be identical sections of the print.  Using the 60 degree ruler, cut triangles.  This makes an 'uppy' and a 'downy' set of triangles.  You can see from the finished piece above how to put them together.
* we all know there's no such thing ...
